Flipperlane covers furniture painting, refinishing, and reselling. Refinishing work involves power tools, sharp hand tools, dust, and chemicals. Read this before you start a project described on flipperlane.com.
You Are Responsible for Your Own Safety
We cannot see your workspace, your tools, your ventilation, or your level of experience. Assess every step for yourself, and if a task is beyond your competence — rewiring a lamp, structural repair, spraying solvent-based finishes — hire someone qualified. Skill level, equipment, and conditions vary enormously between workshops.
Lead Paint in Older Pieces
Furniture manufactured or painted before 1978 may carry lead-based paint. Sanding, scraping, or heat-stripping it releases lead dust and fumes that are hazardous, especially to children and to anyone pregnant. Test suspect finishes with a lead test kit before you disturb them, and follow the lead-safe practices your local regulator publishes — or leave the piece to a certified professional. Do not assume a piece is clear because it looks new.
Solvents, Strippers, and Ventilation
Chemical strippers, lacquer thinners, mineral spirits, and many finishes are flammable, give off harmful vapour, and can burn skin and eyes. Work outdoors or with genuine cross-ventilation, keep them away from ignition sources, and never mix products. Rags soaked in oil-based finishes can ignite on their own — spread them flat to dry or submerge them in water in a sealed metal container before disposal. Dispose of chemical waste according to local hazardous-waste rules, not down a drain.
Protective Equipment
Wear eye protection, gloves suited to the chemical in use, and hearing protection with power tools. A dust mask is not respiratory protection against solvent vapour or lead dust; use a properly fitted respirator with the correct cartridge.
Follow the Manufacturer
Where our description differs from the label, data sheet, or tool manual, the manufacturer’s instructions govern. Product formulations change.
Resale Figures Are Not Forecasts
Purchase prices, flip margins, and sale figures we mention are examples from particular pieces in particular markets. They are not typical earnings, projections, or any assurance that you will profit. Resale demand and pricing are local and volatile.
No Guarantees
We make no guarantee of accuracy, completeness, or outcome, and accept no responsibility for damage or injury arising from work you undertake. You proceed at your own risk.
